Last Friday, the event ‘Conflict-Awareness and Implementation of Peace Education’ congregated Member States, organizations of the United Nations System, as well as non-governmental organizations at the United Nations (UN). Organized by the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Malawi, the event was meant to remember which the fundamental values of the United Nations are and to commemorate the observance day ‘Time of Remembrance and Reconciliation for Those Who Lost Their Lives During the Second World War’. GoTogether Initiative was there along with many other non-profit organizations to underscore the importance of conflict-awareness and to foster the implementation of peace education for the future generations.
During the event, it was strengthened in several occasions the role of women and youth in implementing peace security and ensure peace education in order to ‘finish and overcome the actual boundaries of society and politics’ Mr. Man Hee Lee, Chairman of HWPL. Education is nowadays crucial – Peace for Education and Education for Peace – to make the children of today become the peace makers of the future. Only them can now be educated to open their minds to other cultures and to understand ‘the powerfulness of people to change society’ H.E. Mr. Juan Sandoval Mendiolea, Charge d’affaires DPR of the Permanent Mission of Mexico to the UN.
As stated in the ‘Declaration on a Culture of Peace (Resolution 53/243), ‘Peace not only is the absence of conflict, but also requires a positive, dynamic participatory process where dialogue is encouraged and conflicts are solved in a spirit of mutual understanding and cooperation’.
